Indeed, the best sort of confidence is that tempered by humility – the recognition that one is not God and cannot run things like Him, but at the same time, one is not beholden to a pagan sort of God, one who is irritable and mysterious and uncommunicative, or worse, be stuck under the capriciousness of fate.
